how does a second domain name work?

i have a domain at the moment but want to greate another web site. is that what a sub domain is?
if i set up a new domain name does it link from my current domain, for example if my new domain was www.blahblahblah.com , would i be able to type it in to the search box and just go to it or would i have to go to my site and link to it, www.gremlingrafix.com/blahblahblah,
im not sure how it works!!!
if i was to set up a second domain that wasnt linked to my first site how do i do it??
if you know what i mean and can help, please do it will be apreciated!!!!

Read my "Newbie Tips" in my signature.
Buy the domain.
Point the domain to you VodaHost servers
Go to cPanel and click on AddOn Domains
Follow instructions
Create a new folder inside your MyDocuments/BlueVoda folder for the new domain
Create the new index page
Save to the new folder
Publish to public_html/addondomain (depending on which version of cPanel you may have to add the ".com")
Your new site will be www.domainname.com
That's it !!!
