Free domain name ?

I wanted to register my 1st free domain name and it appears that I have to pay for it. Therefore it is not free. Can someone clarify this. Thanks

As answered in the duplicate of this post - The registration of one domain name is absolutely FREE. VodaHost offer one free domain name registration when you join up and pay for hosting.
