    Confused about sub domains

    Hi people,

I'm confused about sub domains and how to make one, as i understand if you have an account and a registered domain name you can have as many subs as you like right?

Heres where i get confused ..if i wanted another site i would make a subdomain using my registered domain name ..like for instance ...www.housework.lindashouseemporium.co.uk.....is that right?

So ..does'nt the "housework" need to be registered? and would the full url have to be used all the time ..or..can I use any name and would people be able to access it by just using ..www.housework.co.uk?

Can someone put me out of my confusion please, its driving me nuts!

    Thank you
    Linda

    Yes!

No, not if you use it like www.housework.lindashouseemporium.co.uk BUT
that is the only way you could use it.

On the other hand if you purchased www.housework.co.uk you could have it as an add-on domain and it would work, quite happily, in its own right. Whilst still being part of the one original hosting package.

Can someone put me out of my confusion please, its driving me nuts!

    Thank you
    Linda
I have six which are all add-on domains as I bought the domain names. I still only have the one original girlonthehill hosting package though. Does that help, Linda?

          Hi Amanda,
You may have solved my problem as well. If I use the facility of an add on domain, I assume this will just create another directory within the cpanel that I can use as a completely separate website without effecting my main site, and that I can also have emails accounts separately to that particular domain?

          Thanks

          Chris.
          Regards Chris.

It’s nice when someone explains by example. A lot better than the panel’s Q&A index.

              Thank you.

                Re: Confused about sub domains

Maybe someone can help me. I know how to set up the subdirectories, but that's about it. I want to be able to add different features and eventually upload. But for now, when I go to try and see a file, I get a message saying that "register_globals is disabled in my php configuration." Huh? What do I do? I have my website already made and would like to upload.

If you have a Vodahost account and are using bluevoda, the way to publish to a sub directory is as follows:

If your domain name is myname.com and your subdir is called mysub
then hit the publish btn and at the bottom of the user/password screen
                    you will see public_html
                    just add /mysub
so you end up publishing to public_html/mysub....and thats it.....

to link to a page in your new sub dir....

This website is for sale! myname.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, myname.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!
                    Have fun
