emails & login

I have watched the tutorial several times but I am still unable to receive emails. Should my incoming server be the email address that is on the welcome letter?

When I composed new mail and clicked send, a window called logon came up. It won't accept the username and password. Should I be using my username and password on the welcome letter or as I set it up with VodaHost?

I appreciate any help you can provide. Please understand that I'm a newbie and as I learn each new step the language is Greek to me! So I'm learning the Greek language AND how to create a website!

Thanks again!

Re: can't receive emails & login problems

i just wanted to add that I followed Bethers advice in a different thread about deleting accts and starting from scratch, and still I cannot receive mail. I can send, though. Ive tried all variations of usernames, passwords and incoming servers...
Please help, as I need to rectify this before I publish, and I'm simply baffled.
Thank you!

Hi

Okay let's see....

To sign into the mail account that came in your welcome letter, use the username and password you have received in that welcome letter.

You then are signed into horde mail ....

You then create any other email addresses that you like ....
for instance contact@yourdomainname.com

you also then create a password of your own for that account, and that is how you sign in and out of that new account you just created ....

You then need to configure your own email client, whether it is outlook or outlook express, etc.

So may I ask, where are you at this stage of the game. Have you configured your email client??

Re: can't receive emails & login problems

Hi!!!
I have created a new acct in the cpanel, I'm assuming that would be Horde.
I have also opened an account (does that mean configured a client?) with Outlook Express. For some reason, oe does not accept any logon usernames or passwords, though i can get around that, but no matter what i put into incoming mail server, i still get nothing.
thank you again for the help!

Re: can't receive emails & login problems

Okay, here are the first steps ... let's make sure you have these ones down pat .... let's pretend you are creating the email address contact@yourdomainname.com (<--- change that to your domain name) ....

1. Log into your control panel

2. Click - Mail (Not webmail)

3. Click - Add Remove Manage Accounts

4. Click - Add Account

5. Type - Contact (your domain name will already be there and will follow the word contact)

6. Choose a password that you can remember

Then you are done that part .... I'll post the next steps too ....

Re: can't receive emails & login problems

Now go into your Outlook Express

1. Go to Tools

2. Go to Accounts

3. Click Add

4. Type in the Name that you want people to see when you send them mail (this can be anything you wish, Santa, Mother Goose, etc. lol)

5. Type in email address - contact@yourdomainname.com

6. Next - you will see pop 3, imap, http ... etc.

Type in first line .... mail.yourdomainname.com

Type in second line ... smtp.yourdomainname.com

7. Now on this next line you will probably see contact highlighted ....
take that out and put in your account that is in the welcome email from voda (you will find this under Webmail on that email and you will look where it says, ACCOUNT EMAIL ADDRESS

8. And then type in the password that is there in that email as well ..... you will find this on the line that says Webmail password ...

9. Then click Finish

10. Then go to the properties, right there on the box that is still open, your new email address will be highlighted to the left ... it will say mail.yourdomainname.com

11. Click Properties on the right

12. Under the general tab it should say ...

Mail Account

mail.yourdomainname.com

13. Under user information

It should say the name you have chosen (mother goose, santa, etc., lol) if you chose that

and it should have the Email address contact@yourdomainname.com

Tick include this account when sending mail or synchronizing

14. Now click the Servers tab

incoming .... mail.yourdomainname.com

outgoing .. smtp.yourdomainname.com

Incoming Mail Server

contact@yourdomainname.com

Now in here is where you enter the password you chose when you were up in your control panel adding this account .... this is where that password gets entered ....

15. Same page - Outgoing mail server

tick my server requires authentication

16. On the connection tab

tick whatever is filled in on that box (might say local connection)

And you should be good to go .....

Then send yourself an email ....

Finally, your directions are extremely specific with which usernames/passwords to go where. I think I see where I made a mistake already. I'm going to change it, then let my hubby borrow the computer a minute, then I'll let you know if all is well.

I'm back,
He went over his time-he's in trouble...

Anyway, for OE - steps 7 & 8 were wrong. I changed them because I thought that was the problem, but no go. I still cannot receive mail.

And after I changed the server onfo (step 14) for outgoing mail, then I could no longer send mail. I changed that back to what I had originally (smtp.rcn.com), unchecked the Server requires authentication box and then I could send a new mail, plus the previous one which had been diverted to the outbox folder.

So I'm pretty much back where I started.

I have clicked on the link already three or more times and read all the troubleshooting. The only thing that I can think that sounds remotely like a solution would be to call my ISP yet. Is it definitely Port 25 that I should ask about? Because I personally don't know what that means, but it would be nice to sound like I know when I call them.
Thanks again for the help.
