Hello VodaHost,

Did I receive an email address when I purchased my "shorter version" domain name that I use solely for domain forwarding (no hosting service purchased with that particular domain)?

Since you have hosting already, you will need to add your new Domain name to your hosting account as an Add-On Domain, which will then allow email addresses to be created in cPanel.

A Domain name in itself does not have the ability to "process" email, for it is simply an "address" on the WWW --- once you associate it with a destination (hosting account and cPanel) it becomes an identifiable platform upon which you can build other functions.
