Email a friend

Hi - I've installed a shopping cart on my website (Written with Dreamweaver) and there's a nifty little "Email a friend" feature on the products page. It all appears to work, but emails don't seem to actually get sent. I have a trouble shooting list to work through and number one is this - and I quote - "Make sure the STMP server is set correctly for PHP with your host".
Well - that may as well be Greek to me - so over to you. Is it?
