How about using the table menu?
Select the table and click Table|Insert Row/Column.

Can you give more details? I don't understand. If you just want to add new rows or columns, what features are you missing?

ok I'm making a chart for different team members averages
lets say theres 7 members on a team
          I make 7 rows 4 columns
after i make the chart and I want to add some new runners
How do i add new rows and colums?
          without making another chart
when i make another chart to add these runners its hard to line everything up

Select a cell, go to the table menu and click Insert row/column, this will add a new row or column before of after the selected cell.
I can't think of another way to do this.
