creating a website for a friend

    Hi,
I am a very satisfied customer, www.arnabaartz.com and take great pleasure in maintaining my website through blue voda. My Question is about creating a new website for a friend. I would like to use my computer and I already have the blue voda download how do I use it to create the new site. or do I have to down load it again. I tried to download again but it wouldn't run anyway.
    I appreciate the help,
    Arna3

Hi, you can create a new site on your account if it was for your own use. But if it is for someone else, I think this would be classed as reselling & would not be allowed & can be checked.
It is always advisable to have another account if it is for someone else for many reasons apart from the obvious reason of security on your own site.
You can use BV to build as many sites as you wish, but remember to create some more folders to stop you over writing the pages for your site. IE: index page. Plus do some back ups, as its very easy to overwrite a file.
If it was for your own use, do a search for add on domains.
If it was for someone else. Just guide them though getting a new account with a free domain.
cheap web hosting and affordable prices at a discount for all your web hosting needs VodaHost is your perfect web host.

    Good luck.
    Regards Chris.

      Thanks Chris,
I am just helping my friend get his pages together, he is going to sign up and buy a domain name etc. So is that okay? and are you saying that there is a way to seperate my pages in my computer fromthe pages he and I create for him, (on my computer)?

Hi Arna, be very careful if using 2 computers. The text & layout of the site can be transferred between machines, but the images won’t show unless you have the folders on both computers set up exactly the same, and chances are they are not. (It’s a tricky one)

But have a look around the forum as there are some posts on this.
        Regards Chris.

          Arna3,
You do not need to download BV again.
If your friend buys a domain, an e-mail will be sent to them. Do what Chris said above, create a new folder for your friend's site and publish their web site using their user name and PW.
Make back ups of their folder and yours.

            Okay,
What I am hearing is that if I save all my stuff in one folder and all his stuff in another (and create backups of both) then when he is ready he will purchase his own domain name, recieve an e-mail with his user name and password which will enable him to publish. and this can all be done on my Computer! I hope I have got it!
Please let me know If I am missing something,
            Love Arna

              Hi again,
We have made my friends pages and have saved them in a folder of their own. Do we simply apply for a domain name get an account and publish the pages under the name we chose? seems simple writing it now!
I hope this is right, I am going to give it a go. Thanks Arna

                You have two options:
1.Work under your account, BUT, his domain will be linked to your account. Still have to buy the new domain.
                2. Have him create his own VodaHost account (recommended) get a free domain, and work off your computer. If you part ways you each have your own VH account. When you publish your friend's page you will be doing so with your friend's user ID , PW and server.

Something I just thought of, Maybe I misinterpreted when you talked about creating a new folder, I created a new folder in the blue voda section on my computer which just compiles his stuff seperately so I don't get his stuff mixed up. Maybe you were talking about something more dificult than that. although I have been successful in making a wbsite, I am not really that knowledgable about computers! (although obviously improving!)

Another thing , when I go to Publish his page the IP address that we were given for his account/domain is deiferent to mine and isn't in the box and there seems to be no way for me to insert his IP address. what's going on there.

                        Arna,

Try re-downloading blue voda again on your computer, it can be found in my signature here, this may help.

I have tried to do that a couple of times but for some reason it downloads incomplete or corrupted. But I am trying again with the intention of being successful!!

VH/BV has added a few more IP’s to the list that you see in that drop down box & should show up when you get the new download.
