i cnt get my edited home page to publish

i have recently published my home page succesfully. i have made some changes to it, saved it as my index page and tried to publish it. i get the 'succesfully published' window comeing up but when i go to view my page on the net it is still as the older page, un edited?? anyone tell me where i have gone wrong??
