How To Publish And Link Pages?

I have created 6 basic pages for the website. On the index page (Home) I went in and I thought I linked the buttons to the pages. I then copied the navigation button graphic and pasted the corrected version in each of the 5 other pages. I published all to the temporary URL and the home page comes up fine but when I click the button to go to the other pages it highlights the utton but goes to an explorer "you can't go there" blank page. I am new to this, first site. What is wrong? Help!!!!

    Hi tb

You'll be needing to post the name (url) of your domain, so that we can have a look at what the problem may be....

            Ok, good job.

I see you have your index page, and the colors you have chosen for your profession are great, they will work well ...

But you do not have any navigation ... now you thought that you did, so perhaps you added to the page but did not republish ??? Maybe

In any case, you will need to add the navigation buttons on your pages.

And in case you are wondering how to link, here are some tips.

home page link will always be http://www.drpennysc.com nothing else, only this

next page may be called toothdecay
            it's link would be http://www.drpennysc.com/toothdecay.html

You likely have this down pat, but you have either not republished or have not copied your nav bars over and saved your pages and republished again ...

Set your navigation on the index page, make sure all the links are typed in properly for your pages, republish and then open again and copy the same navigation to all other pages and republish them again.

            This will work for you.

Tip, if you use the copy and paste from the top toolbar instead of right clicking and copying, the nav bar will land in the same area on all of your pages, and that is what you want ...

It's also good to keep your pages at the '800 width - this prevents sideways scrolling on some peoples computers ... build starting at the top left and over to the '800 width, tick center in browser ... (found on page properties, by right clicking on an empty space on your page)

Good Luck, you are on your way!!

OK I changed all of the pages to 800 width. Thanks. I went into my index page and changed the URL to www.drpennysc.com. I then saved the nav bar in the index page, copied it and went to each of the other pages and replaced the nav bar with the new one from the index page. Each time I resaved the page and then went back and republished all of the pages.
It still is not going to the pages from the Home page. What have I done wrong.

                Thanks for your patience. Tim

                  Hmmm ....

I am not noticing your changes ...

can you give me the page name of one of the other pages you have published?

I don't see any navigation bar either??

Looks to me like your entire page has been inserted as an image? 1280 x 1067

Re: How To Publish And Link Pages?

That seems strange. When I finished correcting the pages I grouped the elements. Is that a problem? Here is how the files were saved and published:

                    Nav bar names in bold

Home Page is saved and published as index
About The Doctor is saved as aboutthedr
Dental Implants is saved as dentalimplants

                    Thanks Tim

Re: How To Publish And Link Pages?

Well, you can have your page as an image, however, it's not adviseable when attempting to show search engines your page content. It is best done in text. Images are fine to use, however, the majority of your page should be text.

Are you using blue voda to build your site?

Are you choosing to add your navigation via the navigation tool on the bottom left side tool bar of your blue voda web builder? Are you inserting this item, changing the styles, adding the links??

Re: How To Publish And Link Pages?

Yes, It was all built in BlueVoda. I think what I will do is start over with a new nav bar and use the one on the right side and see what gives. I have ungrouped the pages as well. Let me ask on the "index" page in the properties section when you are describing the URL for that page should it read: http//www.drpennysc.com/index.html or is the /index.html not needed? Thank, Tim

On any page when you have a look at the properties, what you see there is the TITLE of the page ... this is different than the name of the page, hmmm, a tad confusing, but the title can be what you like, but should say something like Dr. Pennys Dental - however, when you name, save and publish your page, that is what is important for linking, etc. different than page title remember.

Name your page index, save as index, publish as index - nothing else .. but you can title this page (page properties) Dr. Pennys Dental Lab
                          Type the link as http://www.drpennysc.com

                          next page

name your page aboutus, save as aboutus, publish as aboutus - nothing else, you can title this page (in page properties) About our Business
                          Type the link as http://www.drpennysc.com/aboutus.html

You type the links in your navigation menu, a pop up will appear and you will see where to type this information.

Blue Vodas unique web building program converts your page into .html for you ....

When applying the links, you need to type the .html to all pages other than index, however you never add this to publish.

Click here and have a read of my blue voda tips, this may help you understand better ...

                          Hope this helps!!
