    Favicon

Hi, I have created a favicon and have uploaded it in my file manager; does it need to be in my public html folder? and is there any thing else I need to do to allow it to work?

    Thanks
    Richard

    Re: Favicon
    • Upload the generated file ("favicon.ico") to your site. Verify it's there by typing http://mysite.com/favicon.ico in the browser's location, where "mysite.com" is your site's address so in the public_html folder.
    • Next, insert the below code in the HEAD section of your pages, at the very least, your site's main index page:
      HTML Code:
      <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
    • That's it! Your favicon may not appear immediately after you've completed the above two steps. In fact, it may take a few days, and in IE, sometimes the favicon will disappear from time to time due to a browser bug.

Itsrichard - Have you refreshed the page? Also if the website is saved in your favourites already, you will need to delete if from there and then add again. Also you sometimes have to wait a few days for it to appear.

Whiteshepherd - By adding to the <head> tag i mean add to the source code of the website. If you go to your website and click on the view button on the toolbar at the top and then 'view source' or 'source' you will see what i mean by source code.

As far as i'm aware there is an option within BV to view the source code and add this in.

Favicons will not always show in IE6. They do better in FireFox.

Consider adding titles to your pages, search engines don't really like 'index'

                        Re: Favicon

Bill, you're very good at explaining things. I printed info from various threads about favicons and downloaded a favicon from http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

I was told that that download couldn't be opened but then got
                        file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/favicon.ico
in my browser window. And I see my 16x16 icon on the screen.

I'm supposed to upload the generated file to my site. I'm not sure how to do that. I tried File>New Page on BV > from existing HTML and got a square in the corner that says no image found. How do I upload correctly?

From what I've read, I'm supposed to eventually copy
                        <LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="
                        http://www.british-cemetery-elvas.org/favicon.ico
                        ">

to the "Start of page" section of Page HTML Yes?

Thanks for your help! PS I use Firefox.

                          Malhoeira,

You can upload the image either via blue ftp or via the Cpanel. The easiest way is the Cpanel which is as follows:
                          • Open Cpanel
                          • Click on file manager (A new window will open)
                          • Within the new window click on public_html
                          • At the top of the screen, click upload file
                          • Click on browse button and select the image you want to upload
                          • click upload
The file is now in the correct area of the site and all you need to now do is insert the html code into the head section of your site by doing the following
If you right click on your page within your blue voda web builder, you will notice page HTML ... this is where you would insert the html code provided for you for this favicon ... choose head section .... and republish ...

Thanks for the crash course in Upload 101.

Your exchange with Lady Eye points to the BV way but I don't see head section on the BV Page HTML. Just 6 tabs: Start of Page Between head tag, Inside body tag, Beginning of body, End of body, End of page.

I read on another thread that the code should be put on Start of Page so I've done that. OK?

Still trying to configure the favicon. Using Blue FTP, I see it on the left side of the screen but when I move or copy it to the public_file, the icon doesn't show. Instead, I get the image you see next to Views above the right section. Clicking on that image brings up "problem with executing of the viewer".

How do I get my favicon into public_file correctly?
