I want to host a file for download

Could someone help me understand this?

I try to upload a file to the file manager, and it reads.........

"File uploads are restricted to prevent account issues caused by exceeding your file system quota"

Shouldn't I be able to do this? And If so, why is it pre set to prevent this?

    Please help.

Most all systems have a "size" restriction. If they didn't- then you could concievably upload a 250 gigabyte file. So you have 600 gigs of storage- but you can fill it with small files.

What are you trying to upoad and how big is it?

    Cheers-

      Thanks for replying Andy.

I want to host video files of 100-300mb in size. I figured out how to upload them by simply testing a small video file. Guess I miss interpreted the restriction comment.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to safely pass on the URL of the file for a download cue. I posted the URL, and it requires a password etc.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to change permissions or something?

      Thanks for the response.

        How are you uploading them?

Are you having the customer/user upload the films?

It is clear to me that 300Mb files are heavy stuff and your current
Disk space and Bandwith with VodaHost is insufficient to cater for this kind
of business as it will affect your webhosting capabiity.

Re: I want to host a file for download

I use google video and youtube to put most of my video on. You can have so it isn't open to the public. They just give you a html code that you put into your page make a secure area and when your client has the password they can access your videos on your site, but it is hosted by the other companies. I am unsure of how secure it is so you would be best to find out from google. It does depend if you want them to be able to download it or just watch it from your site.
            Hope this helps,
