Also is there a way to passwoed protect or to have an approve email sent to me before people sign my guestbook??? Simply create a protected directory, and re-install the guestbook in that password protected directory......this means visitors will need to have a password to access your guestbook.

Another option is to install a captcha MOD to your guestbook to "humanize" the access (visitors must manually type in a visual clue: this prevents spambots from entering and scouring email addresses).

Hi thanx for the responses-however I am not equipped to add a protected directory to these guestbooks. I went to the link you provided but I don't think I know where to enter the information on the blue voda guestbook. Sorry but I am not good at the technical side (scripts and so forth) is there any chance you could tell me the DIY for dummies version for this? :)))

          Ladyeye,
i am also having trouble with this, how do i make a password protected directory? i made a new directory in ftp manager and password protected it in cp, (following the tutorial) but once i published it into that folder, i couldnt find it... can you help?

also, the guestbook on my site ( http://www.sportsterriderssa.com/forum.html ) was hit with spam, most of which i deleted but there is a gap on it which still shows up the message once i am logged in as admin. do you know how i can get rid of it? i pressed delete in the admin section which got rid of some of it but it is still there. and now the delete button wont work.
do i have to delete the guest book and put in another?

sorry to be a bother, but i would rather not have russian porn sites all over my site.

          thanks, jess

The captcha project from Mellon University is the best way to protect Guestbooks and other things, without installing plug-ins like you would for a forum. I followed the link before it was changed, and here it is again, so you do not need to do a protected ditrectory, in my opinion. But, being new here, I suppose I have to tread lightly for a while yet, right?
