Best way to organize Public_html folder

I have uploaded some of my pages with images to my public folder. When I look at them in cpanel file manager they are all mixed together.

Should I place the index page in a subdirectory and then sub web pages in that directory or should sub pages be in subdirectories of the index page?

Will my index page be found if it is in a subdirectory of public_html?

If I place index in a subdirectory and other pages in subdirectories of this, could I password protect the index directory (and then all sub directories)?

Should I create a images directory and then place all images in that directory? If so, can this be done from BlueVoda Web Developer using the publish button?

Also, I am able to see my web page www.AfricanDreamAdventureSafaris.com using the link in my welcome email but not directly on the internet. Any ideas? I also am not able to move from page to page (not all links are in yet, but the ones I have put in don't work). I wonder if I am labeling the pages incorrectly. Can I use capital letters in my page names as long as I publish using them and then use them in my links?

    Thanks

Yes, you can use upper case EXCEPT for the index page.
Yes, you can have pages in subdirectories that are password protected.
Of course you have to publish to those directories...public_html/directory1
The the URL would look like....www.website.com/directory1/Safari.html
There is really no need to "tidy" your public_html directory. If you move anything after it is published you will have missing data and could trigger a 404 Error page.
If you place your index page in a subdirectory you will have to publish it to a subdirectory and the URL would look like www.website.com/indexdirectory (nothing added to the end here as it will automatically find the index page.
You could have an index page in every subdirectory.
The URL would the be www.website.com/directory1 (nothing here on the end either
However, this can creat a stunning amounty of confusion when publishing if you have several " index " pages open at the same time.
Is there truly a need for password protection or tidying up in the CPanel?
You have not yet purchased this domain name.

Thought so. I got welcome email and uploaded using my given user name and password.

Am I having problems because I loaded as www.AfricanDreamAdventureSafaris.com rather than www.africandremadventuresafaris.com? Does the capitals make a difference? If, so can I use the capitals?

        Thanks

Makes no difference in the domain. However, on the page names it must be exactly as published.

Looks likem I really screwed up! Apparantly I registered as
africandreamadvenuresafaris.com rather than africandreamadventuresafaris.com! I left the "t" out of adventure.

            What now?!?

Guess I'll check with customer support.

                Hi,

It is better that you establish a proper filing system in your "public_html"
otherwise it will be one big mess.

I have my main domain plus 3 addon domains in my cPanel public _html/
and here is how it looks.

The above is just to give you an idea.

You have to have an organised filing method otherwise mantainence of
your webpages will be horibbly difficult.

Not Really. I have 7 addon domains. Each addon has its own folder. I have no issues keeping files sorted. Of course it depends somewhat on what info the domain is storing.

Re: Best way to organize Public_html folder

Your published items must remain in their original published locations. You may of course have a well organized, extensive, system of folders/directories as zuriatman has suggested. You can have a folder/directory for each page. When publishing it could look like this:
                      public_html/index_folder.
Then only files dealing with the index page would be in the index_folder. (unless you make an error and publish an incorrect file to that particular folder)
For data bases, stored information, downloads it make perfect sense as zuriatman explained to have a folder/directory for those types of items.
At first glance, your public_html file may appear to be jumbled/mixed together files. It is a filing system using a modified alpha numeric order.
