    What changed?

I went to go to my simple machines forum today and I get this:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/thechap/public_html/midatlanticweather/bb3/Settings.php on line 28

    http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb3/

That happend by itself! I had not done any changes or updates. I am working on installing a new one and pointing to my DB, but what could have happened? New PHP? Something! It did not just do this by itself.

Same thing happened to my phpBB forum, every file was corrupted (database remained intact) and it's gonna take me at least a week to pick up the pieces.

*****, my forum looks fine because I went ahead and started putting it back together. There are still a lot of functionalities missing, but I'll have it back the way it was within a week. Thanks for the offer of help, but I think I'll just rebuild it on my own. There were a couple things I always wished I'd done differently when I built the original, and now I have a reason to do them.

Since you are redoing it...You might as well kill two birds with one stone
and upgrade it to the latest version (If you have not already)...They have
found some serious security holes in previous versions that allow cross
                scripting exploits.

                  Re: What changed?

That was the first thing I did. I figured since I was starting from scratch anyway, might as well update while I was at it. I mod my forum so heavily that I usually have to upgrade it file by file, so this was kind of nice. It's helpful that the databases weren't affected, it makes putting the whole thing back together much easier.

Thursday was an interesting day for me - I had a mild heart attack that morning, and then came home later to find out that my forum had gone on the blink. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. LOL

                    Re: What changed?

I did the best I could. the error is back, but I had tried recopying files into the directory (before contacting you guys) to make it work. Overwrite them back at will as it still has issues.

The real file had not changed. it was http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb3/index.php

I had added an index.html to let people know there was an issue.

There is problem with your Settings.php . Have tried doing an upgrade?
Or setting the permissions to 777

Guy's got it! AND it was easy.. sorry

There was a line that said:
$mmessage = 'Ok faithful users...we're attempting to restore an older backup of the database...news will be posted once we're back!'; # Description of why the forum is in maintenance mode.

the extra ' marks messed it up! Not sure why they suddenly became an issue! Removed them and we are back!

                        Thanks!
