re Password protection

Hi all,
I need a little assistance please.
I have perused the password protection video tutorial a few times but what they teach and what I see when I open my Epanel icon are different. I have 1 domain, namely sitesunion.com within this domain I have created 3 pages which are basically irrelevant and apart from sitesunion.com and linked to each other.
Thus the pages I want to protect would be sitesunion.com/pagename.html.
How do I protect these? I read that they speak of a directory... how do I put these three pages in a separate directory please., if this is what is needed.

Hi, you create another folder in your cpanel & password protect it. You then publish your pages that you only want visitors to see with a password to this folder. So you would publish the page "pagename.html" to public_html/newfolder/ & the link to this would be www.sitesunion.com/newfolder/pagename.html.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am sorry, but I am an ignoramous in these things... I do not have a clue where to go or what to do when you say "Create another folder in your cpanel... have no idea how to do this... could you run me through this please

Thank you again Chris, one question - the tutorial says that one must select the file to protect from the list... this file is not there. The pages are in my blue voda designer program, not published as yet cause I want to protect them. How do I get the folder into this list in my cpanel to allow me to protect it. Must I create a new folder within my public_html folder? Please understand that i am petrified to work in all these technical areas incase I botch up everything.

Yes, first create a new folder within your public_html folder.
Then you can protect the folder that you have created.

Have a look at the Bluevoda FTP video tutorial, you might be more comfortable working with that instead of the file manager.

Hello chris,
Yes... hooray! I have now added the folder in my cpanel, clicked on it and gave it a id and password, it shows that the username given is registered as a user and has a password.
I now publish the file to www.sitesunion.com/pvt/pagename.html
I put this in the address bar and the page opens with out requesting a password. Where have a cocked it up please?

You would publish to public_html/pvt (assuming this is the folder name that is protected?)

Hi, are you clicking via cpanel >password protected directory>Public_html yellow folder icon>pvt (text! not yellow icon folder)> Then adding user & password, plus checking the box. (Directory requires a password to access via the web)
