IP Address & AWSTATS

Awstats provides IP addresses for visitors to a website, but what use is this ?
Can I track back to the visitor ?

Well yeah you could kinda.. but if you were getting nailed by lots of spam or hack attempts etc.. you could block that ip

Thanks Karen. . . Is there a "system" to IP addresses . . . . ie does the numbering signify a country, city, etc ?

yes.. you can trace the ip to a specific provider.. not necessarily user... just that they use the network.
