ok so BV has PP buttons and you can also create PP buttons within your PP account... any opinions on which is best?

Depends on what you want to do. If you have simple products and want to just create a button with bv it works fine. If you have a store type situation and want paypal to add the shipping for the total order etc.. then you need to use paypals.
