Why does site not appear on google?

Hello,
I made a sitemap, as far as i know, and published it but my site still does not appear on google. Does anyone know why this would be or how you improve google rankings?

I found your site on google. I admit it was a struggle cos there are a lot of corey carlson pages. This is the hit I got.

thanks, good to know the site is there, i had not seen it, does anyone know how to move the site up to the top of google search engine rankings?
