master theme page

oh great ones of the web page world :)
is there a way to create a master page with all of your links and stuff on it.....save that page....make content pages...insert one into the other....then if you have to update the master page it automaticly up dates all of the other pages?? if there is and you could point me in the direction of some read'n it would be greatly appreciated.
