Trying to transfer files

Hi everyone,
I am in a pickle and would appreciate everyones help.
I just got my new laptop am trying to transfer my files from my external hard drive onto my laptop so I can work on my site on my laptop.
Nothing is being opened properly and it seems I need to download voda straight onto my laptop.
I am trying to do just that but when I go to download Voda says I have already done this with said email.
Is there a way to download via an update? Please forgive me if I am missing something simple...
