  • Design Issue- How to create a download

Hello everyone, I am having trouble creating a download link on my website. I want people to be able to download a monthly newsletter that I receive and save on my computer. I was able to put the document in the public_html folder using the control panel file manager, but from there I couldn't get anything to work. Please let me know what I can do to get this information out to my visitors.

    My domain name is: ccunderwriters.com

    Thank you.

Try to .Zip it and then upload to your server. And link to it would look something like this: www.ccunderwriters.com/newsletter.zip
When people click on it, it will automaticly start download

When you say to .Zip it, how do I do that? Do you mean make it a Zip file? I do not know exactly how to do that.

Yes, you need to make a zip or rar file. If you have WinRar, you can do it by right clicking file, then select Add to archive...

I create the Zip file, now when I want to link it on my website do I just highlight the text, right-click, link, then find the file on my computer? Or do I just type in www.ccunderwriters.com/newsletter.zip for people to click?

Yes, just make a link. Then upload your newsletter as newsletter.zip

Re: Design Issue- How to create a download

I tried linking the newsletter to some text and could get it to work. Do I use it as http: or do I change that option to file: ?

When I tried linking it I had typed in http//:www.ccunderwriters.com/april2009newsletter. Just as it is saved.

I also tried it without the http//:, and then again with .Zip on the end of the file name. Still no luck.

Let me know if you can figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

If the newsletter is not a huge file, you don't have to zip it.

In any case, use the proper extension

                http//:www.ccunderwriters.com/april2009newsletter.zip

I used it with zip extension, and it downloaded just fine.
