    Forum Spam

Is there anyway to keep SPAM off a Forum? Will adding CAPTCHA work?

    Re: Forum Spam

    Hi Cabon Terry,

    It is a universal problem.

I check all suspected members using "stopforumspam" search results.

You can check the Username, Email and IP address.

If they are on the list I ban them permanently.

Check also their website, I ban all adult, drug, gambling, crime, hate websites.

You cant stop backlink registrants but you can select whom you will allow whom not to allow to kink to your forum.

pHpBB has a built-in captcha which you can set to low, medium or hgh.

    Here is the Unspam link:

      Re: Forum Spam

      Thanks ZMan,
I installed the newest version 3.06
      Supposedly is has better security.
I read that the best security is if you can ask a question that has to be answered correctly.
I have not learned how to implement that...yet

        Re: Forum Spam

Remember the forum was installed on your server with VodaHost.

So you can use the IP Deny Manager in cpanel to good use.

Administrate user [each spammer] double click their IP address and the culprit behind the IP is revealed. Usuall it is a mailbot url.

Enter the user's ip into your IP Deny Manager list and that spammer is stopped forever.

The latest phpBB forum once installed still needs to be customized by you.

another is to set the permission for the users. Do not allow Signature links.

You can also delete all members and start afresh or delete members by selection.

enable pruning of forum so inactive members which are just there to provide a backlink to their own sites.

The visual confirmation settings is mainly to stop bots but cannot stop individual registrants who becomes a member then setup links in their signatures and in members profiles.

Every forum requires a full time Administrator. You are it. Dont let them the spammers beat you.
