    Web searching

I have added all kinds of words referring to my site in the meta tags and I changed the Home page message to txt. Insead of doing it as just txt in my image and I cannot find my page when I do a search in google or aol or anything. What do I need to do to get it to show up in a search.
www.dclongbeards.org I have Davidson County,dc longbeards, nwtf, jakes.etc.... nothing comes up.

    Thanks longbeard1

    Re: Web searching

It can easily take a week or two before the search engines take notice of you. Lots of stuff to learn about optimizing pages for google. I'd start with the BlueVoda video tutorial on making a sitemap, and also check out what Google says about it here.

      Re: Web searching

Having keywords in your meta's is little help.
The keywords must be in text on your page.
If you have the word " deer " in your meta's but don't use the word " deer " in your text there is no point in having it in your meta's.
      Understand the logic?
Also, if you choose to use meta's have a max of 25 keywords/keyword phrases.
Check out your competition that is on page one and see what they are doing that you are not.
H Tags are an important SEO technique.
You can Google "H Tags" if need be.
BV 11.4 has a built in H Tag function.

You may want to visit the "SEO for Beginners" link in my siggy.

            Re: Web searching

Try this for a visual example:

            Go to Skype at http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/home

If you are using Firefox, go to the upper portion of their page and right click your mouse. Select "View Page Info"

A gray box will pop up and list the Keywords that Skype used.

Or, you can go to a competitor's website that is ranked very high, and do the same thing for an idea of how they do their keywords. Then. look at that page and notice how and where they used their key words.

This has helped me *****en my intuition regarding the keyword issue.

            Good luck,

            John

I agree, still a lot of tones missing especially in the background & on the waterfalls... I'll make sure to complete a project next time.

                    Re: Web searching

                    1. each link on the menu opens in a new window.

                    2. be explicit in your title. It should have at least one keyword that
is being used on the page.

                    3. Description of the index page is missing. Make one from the content
on the page. Be brief but have a few primary keywords in it.

                    4. Check all pages for description.

                    5. For the title, you could have
The Davidson County Longbeards chapter - National Wild Turkey Federation
Google spybot can know from the title what
                    Davidson County Longbeards is about.

                    Using Google
                    1. dc longbeards shows up first on search page.

                    2. Davidson County Longbeards shows up 4th or 5th on the first search page.

Google does not look at keywords anymore.

It looks at three items for a page:

                    1. Explicit descriptive title with at least one primary keyword for the page.
                    2. Description with your selected keywords
                    3. Keywords/phrases in the first paragraph on the page.

Google and other will index your pages on the next round of indexing.
That can happen tomorrow or it may take a week or longer.

                      Good post wysiwyg4

FWIW the should be a maximum of 60 characters and/or 10 words in the page title.
The most important keyword used in the title should be the first or second word in the title.
It's not always the first paragraph but the first block of text in the page source.
You can manipulate that by the move to front function.

                          Hi all

This is interesting information, and it comes as a shock to the system due to all the SEO tips & tricks out there.

Just curious, but where and how do y'all get this stuff as well as keep up to snuff on these seeming tactical changes?

For me it is like finding a needle in a haystack.

                          Thanks for the heads up.

                          John

The first thing to do is to set up a Google Analytics account to track your site.
I also suggest using the SEO Doctor software.
If you use FireFox browser install the Firebug Add On.
Spend 4-5 years searching the web for SEO information.
