Wordpress issues

Have decided after fumbling about trying to design a site to use wordpress, have gone trough the proscess of installing using fantastico, now when i try to customize my site it just gives me a blank page with the toobar at the side,
it was installed into my public html is this the right place for it, struggling to make anything happen
