Is there a way to auto extend Gradient shapes

I've been trying to get my site to load faster through image optimization as I found out my load time is absolutely horrible. http://www.atexflooring.ca
My home page after I optimized my images still loads at 62.5 sec http://www.1-hit.com/all-in-one/tool...me-checker.htm

If however I remove the gradient on both sides, it loads up in 12.5 sec
    • Is there any way to keep these gradient shapes without sacrificing so much load time?
    • Is there a script that can somehow auto extend the gradient shapes from a small set-up/small shape, so whether someone is viewing in 800 or 1200 can still be able to view accordingly?
If anyone has any ideas, plz throw it my way

    Thnx

    Hi Mike!

Curious - How have you done your graduated shapes? Have you done them in BV or imported an image (JPG or GIF)?

Sorry, I can't answer any of your complicated questions.... :o)

No. Once you set the content width it is set and will not auto stretch/contract depending on what setting your viewers have their computers.

As to the gradient images- on my machine the gradients showed up immediately - the time lag was apparently loading the other pictures. Having copied the gradient gif to my computer I find that the file is only 31kb in size- while some other pictures were 33kb each with the page containing many of these. Just an observation.

        Hi Amanda

I did the shapes in BV. I converted them to jpg, which made them smaller and tried the route.

Thnx for the info and heads up Andy

I'm just going by my observation of the site I posted above. The page seemed to load 50 sec faster without the gradient. That's why I was hoping to keep the look and feel of the website through some kind of miracle script...lol

This here is my freinds site which was done by a web designer. http://www.buildingsciences.net
He has shapes/gradient on top and the bottom of the page. If you try to save these shapes. You will notice how small they are. That's why I thought there's some sort of script or something. His web page can be viewed at any settings. The shape/layout seems to auto extendor at least maintain it's aspect ratio if you go to higher settings.

            matrix.....

Just a quick question. What are the specs of your machine? The reason I ask is that may be part of the load problem. I would ask a few people to download your site and see what type of load times you get and have them post a little about their machine ie.- Took 5 seconds with 1.4ghz processor with 512 ram and cable connection.

That will give you additional info to determine your proper course of action.

I will clear out my cache after posting this and post my results for you.

              matrix-

Took under 3 seconds with Cable connection-800mhz processor 312mb ram / Zone alarm. Earlier in the day it took maybe a couple seconds longer.

              Hope that helps.

Re: Is there a way to auto extend Gradient shapes

Yes, you can minimize the size. Create a SMALL rectangle with the same width of your gradient, but only let's say 2 mm high. That's because your gradient is orizontal. It would be the other way round if the gradient was vertical.
Preview the page. On the screen that comes up, right click on the gradient, to save it under whatever name you like.
Now go again in your BV page, and delete the rectangle. Insert an image, and double click to edit it, then select the image that you have saved. Now, stretch it to get it to have the height that you want. Save the page and publish it. The image is saved as a very small one (the initial dimensions) then resized BY THE BROWSER to the final dimensions, but it loads fast because it is very small (initialy)

                    Thnx Andy and Amanda.

Andy, I'm a sucker for computers...lol..I have AMD system..water coolant...1.5 gig of ram etc..etc.. High speed cable for internet...

I'm not having problems loading it on my machine or any that have high speed connection. I went over to someones house the other day who happens to have dial up. I tried to load my site and that's when I found out how poorly it loads on a 56k dial-up connection. So I did the test on this site http://www.1-hit.com/all-in-one/tool...me-checker.htm, when I checked my load time here. it showed that an avergae web page takes about 2.3 to 20 seconds. I believe this site is reffering to dial up speed. My pages were taking from min 63 to 500 seconds on some pages.

When I messed around a bit with the gradient. I Noticed it made a huge diffrence in load time. Again home page went from 63 sec to 13 sec just by removing the gradient boxes.

For example Amanda's webpire page according to that site takes about 76 sec to load with dial up connection.
I guess I'm trying to make it as load freindly as I can for everyone.

I was scoring 1/10 for load time check before the modification. Now I'm up to 8/10. So that's 2 sites.

Don't forget it takes long the first time u load the page...after that the image is on the hard drive. In your sister's case...does she remember how long it took the first time?

Or you could always check with someone else that have dial up. or have ur sis do it again after she cleans up the cashe and cookies..
