    SQL database

I need a little help on embedding a database on my site. I would like to build a for sale page that would bring up a list of articles for sale. When one is clicked on, it would launch a detail page on the selected item. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It can be a great day but it's your choice!

    Re: SQL database

    Hi Rick,
Depends a little on how many bikes/cars you will be selling. If it’s only a list of 20 or so it will be fine just using BV as normal. Similar to this http://www.collectors-info.com/testing/dsr.html (been playing again) But if it’s more items you need to sell, & you need a database, it maybe worth looking at one of the free shopping karts that BV has. (Soho)? These are all databases. The other advantage of a cart is you can have different areas for selling by category. IE: Bikes/Clothes/Tools/oil/chains/ & so on. Would be a better long term move.
If you use Soho I believe you will have to set up another domain on your account as I think it will only install in the route directory. But this can also be done by creating a sub domain for free. IE: http://www.shop.deepsouthrides.com & then installing it there.
Worth a look at the pro’s & cons that carts can offer, you hear a lot of people prefer one over another because of the different functions they may have.

    Good luck.
    Regards Chris.

      Chris,

Thanks for the quick response. That looks great and is along the lines of what I would like to do. I am not sure if the shoping cart is what I am looking for. I want to be able to do just what you did in your example and that is list bikes, cars too, for sale for others. I don't know how large it will get which is why I thought a database might be the solution.

Would soho be the solution for larger scale?

        Re: SQL database

        Hi Rick,
You may need watdaflip or Navals help with this one, as a database is a script that will interact with mysql. But this would need a lot of thought on layout, plus scenarios for every action the database would take after asking it to do something. That’s why I was thinking along the cart side of things.
Have sent that page if its of any use, just for ideas.

        Cheers.
        Regards Chris.
