Need help importing CVS file using PhpMyAdmin

I have created a Mysql data base and created tables with fields in PhpMyAdmin. Now I am trying to import a cvs file. I am getting the following error:

Error in zip archive: Compressed size is not equal with the value in header information.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

compressed implies to me you are zipping it? when it just needs to be saved as a csv? or a text file. Make sure you are selecting the right import type... microsoft excel or mysql

No the file is not zipped, its a file I created in Excel 07 and saved as a csv file. The options in PhpMyAdmin to import are csv, csv using load data or sql. I tried all three and got the same error message. Any other ideas?

Such an error message clearly indicates the problem: your zip is corrupted. The "header information" is what your compressing software (winzip, winrar or other) has included, and the content is not the same amount of data.

Try zipping again, possibly with another software.

Did you try WITHOUT zipping ?

Dont forget to skip line 1 as thats the headers...you arent importing those.. just matching.

Re: Need help importing CVS file using PhpMyAdmin

I have abandoned the file I was trying to import that created the zip problem. I still cannot understand why the zip issue would come up since it was not a zipped file.

Anyway, I have tried importing a different file. This time the error message is:

            Invalid column (Product) specified!

Product is the name of my first field/column.

I have checked both my csv file and the data base and they match excactly as far as number of fields and columns, size, spelling etc.

Karen, What do you mean by skipping the first line?

The first line is your headers, usually when you import it asks you if you want to skip the first line.. or begin at line 2.

Just out of curiosity.. what are you uploading too? If its soho.. just do it from soho.

I understand that... but what application are you using or trying to populate. Is it a soho store.. oscommerce, zen cart, or other database system..

Most generally its advisable to do the importing thru the application if possible.. makes life easier.
