increase (override) session time

Hello dear colleagues from the VH forum,

Sometime ago the admin of my VH server has decreased the session time and now when I am using our reserved area the session extinguishes very fast.
Also when I am using my usual FTP program to download my php and html files to the server, I hardly have time to make my changes and I am forced to make login again.

Can please someone tell me how from inside my php program can I increase this time ?

Hi,

I have just tried to use the following instruction:

 <?php 
ini_set('session.gc_maxlifetime', 28800); 
?>

This would set maxlifetime to 4 hours, overwriting php.ini’s value.
It did not work for me, because as I am using a shared server I supose that am not allowed to customize this parameter for my use.

yes.. on a shared server things are not freely accessible for security reasons. What you set on yours could affect others and their usage. Thats why you need to contact support.
