I made changes in the Index page and published it but the page is not updated while the other pages that I have edited have been updated. Why is that? What do I need to do in order to make the index page changed on the internet? Is the index page the same as the Home page of the site?

Yes the index page is the same as the homesite. Make sure when you saved it you used all lowercase letters, hyperlinks are case sensitive.
