zen cart

Hi there i hope someone can help me with my zencart. I recently install zencart but after one day i received an error message saying that someone can write on the configuration file and i need to change the permission to 644 or 444 but when i change the permission to 644 or 444 it told me i dond have permission. Can someone please advise me on what i need to do thanks .
